China's First Lunar 成语: What Should it Be?
I read today that China plans another manned space launch later this year. Future plans call for a Chinese moon landing sometime between now and 2020.
Hate to admit it, but I'm old enough to remember (barely) watching America's first astronaut walk on the moon. At that moment, he famously said, "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
That got me thinking: What should the first Chinese astronaut say when he steps on the moon? Should he adopt a traditional 成语, or make up a new one that will become a lasting phrase for the future?
The first Chinese moonwalk will be such a big international event that these words should not only be powerful, meaningful and memorable in Chinese, but have a graceful English translation so all people can be inspired and moved by it.
