To Touch Lives
Good morning.
I may not be only part of this land’s history,
But I have given it my best,
I may not be the smartest or the strongest,
But I have nurtured its future.
I may have faltered and failed at times;
But my intent has always been noble,
I may not receive the accolades of success,
Nor the praise of men,
But I still see the twinkle of delight in my charges eyes,
I may not be the giant, who can change the future of the world,
But I, in no small measure, can help realise its future.
My work may not win the recognition of statesmen or the successful,
But in the annals of history I would still stand tall
My work may be seen as servitude by many
But the outcome is often distinction
I will not live less than my best
For I need to see that only the best can matter
My standards are never lowly
They are often lofty
I am a seeker of knowledge;
I am a reader of reason
In my action I engage;
In my thoughts I traverse often the impossible;
In my hopes I surely see optimism;
In my hopelessness I yet dare to see possibilities.
If I teach it is because I can reach;
If I nurture it is only because I can nourish;
For every age, every frontier, every circumstance needs me-
An educator, not just of the now;
Not one of only today,
But more a person who can straddle time, space and history –
A person who is timeless and borderless;
Seamless they say;
That’s me, the teacher, the student, the learner, the guru and the work in progress.
