This Master thesis has been performed as part of the Lysekil wave power project atthe Division of Electricity, Uppsala University. Power electronics, placed in asubstation, will be required as an interface between the wave power plant and theelectrical grid. This paper investigates the design of the inverter, gate drive, filter,control system and protections to be used in this substation. Also, extensive marketresearch has been done, resulting in decisions of what components to bemerchandised. A PCB has been designed for the drive circuit. The gate drive and aninverter phase-leg have been built and tested. Control algorithms for SPWM havebeen implemented in LabVIEW, along with the concept of DC-compensation. Thedrive circuit and inverter outputs agree well with theory and simulations.
