2020 GU XIAOCHENG LECTURE
顾孝诚讲座
The 2020 GU XIAOCHENG LECTURE is awarded to Dr. Bo Zhong of Wuhan University.
The Gu Xiaocheng lecture award was established by the Gu Xiaocheng Memorial Fund in 2012. The lectureship recognizes young investigators showing promises to become future leaders in life science research, especially those who work in China.
Dr. Bo Zhong received his Ph.D. from School of Life Sciences, Wuhan University, China in 2010. He did postdoctoral research in MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas, (2010-2013) in USA. Dr. Zhong joined the faculty of School of Life Sciences, Wuhan University, in 2013. He is currently an adjunct professor of Medical Research Institute and a member of the Frontier Science Center for Immunology and Metabolism, Wuhan University.
Dr. Zhong has been working on the regulatory mechanisms of antiviral immunity for a few years. Meanwhile, he extends his research interest to infection-related inflammation and tumorigenesis and hopes that his discoveries can provide new strategies for targeted therapies of the related diseases. His group has characterized critical roles of USP25 and USP2a in the development of colitis and colorectal cancer and tumor metastasis and provided evidence that targeting USP25 and USP2a effectively inhibits bacterial infections, tumorigenesis and metastasis.
Dr. Zhong is praised by his peers as a potential leader in biomedical research, especially in the field of infectious immunity and tumorigenesis in the next few years. He is open-minded and always ready to help others. He provides materials and animals to others without hesitation and provides his expertise and constructive suggestions to his colleagues’ research.
Dr. Bo Zhong is also an inaugural recipient of Ray Wu Prize in 2009. The Ray Wu Prize recognizes excellence in life science research by a graduate student for innovation, independent thinking, and dedication. The Ray Wu Prize is presented annually by The Ray Wu Memorial Fund that was established to carry on Dr. Ray Wu’s legacy of supporting young scientists in life sciences.
