赛珍珠（Pearl S. Buck，1892年6月26日—1973年3月6日）出生于美国西弗吉尼亚州，著名的文学家、慈善家和社会活动家。她一生创作了100多部作品，是世界上最多产作家之一。于1938年获诺贝尔文学奖，获奖作品有《大地三部曲》、《母亲》等，获奖理由是“对中国农民生活史诗般的描述”。

1892年10月，出生4个月后，赛珍珠即被身为传教士的双亲带到中国，在镇江度过了童年、少年，进入到青年时代，前后长达18年之久。赛珍珠在中国生活了近40年，她把中文称为“第一语言”，把镇江称为“中国故乡”。她在镇江风车山曾就读的崇实女中，现仍存有她的故居（就在镇江赛珍珠纪念馆对面，距离数十米）。

1934年，赛珍珠告别了中国，回美国定居。

赛珍珠一生致力于东西方文化的交流，反对种族歧视，争取妇女平等权利，力主废除排华案，支持中国人民抗日战争等。晚年创办“欢迎之家”，从事慈善事业。在新中国成立60周年之际，还被中国人民对外友好协会等单位评为“十大国际友人”提名奖。

1973年3月6日，赛珍珠郁郁中去世于佛蒙特州的丹比（Danby Vermont）。后来，骨灰被安置在宾夕法尼亚州费城郊区绿丘农庄，其墓碑仅用三个小篆汉字刻着其中文名——赛珍珠。
