Integrating Reaction Chemistry into Molecular Electronic Devices

It's all in the wiring…︁ …︁ when it comes to the design and fabrication of new families of molecular electronic devices. In their Focus Review on page 1040 ff., X. Guo, C. Nuckolls et al. describe how reaction chemistry is an efficient means for covalently bridging the nanogaps between separated contacts for molecular devices. In each case, ever-reducing top-down device fabrication existing in the silicon-based semiconductor industry is tailored to meet the requirements of ever-expanding length scales of bottom-up assembly. The combination of directed self-assembly and programmed chemical reactions with device fabrication allows researchers to modify the electrodes and then to complete electrical circuits by chemically connecting the electrodes.

Selenium-containing block copolymers and their oxidation-responsive aggregates

This paper describes the synthesis of selenium-containing amphiphilic block copolymer. The self-assembled responsive aggregates are more sensitive to oxidants than sulfur-containing analogues, thus providing a new cargo delivery system.

Carbazole-based polymers for organic photovoltaic devices
