International Symposium on Urban Geology

FIRST CIRCULAR

 

           The urban geology was developed rapidly in recent years, it plays more and more important role in urban planning, construction and management. The comprehensive urban geological surveys have been conducted in Shanghai, Beijing, and other cities in China. Based on this practice, the Symposium on urban geology aims to promote further development of international urban geology through exchanging progress and sharing experiences. The organizing committee sincerely invites scientists and experts in urban geology to participate this Symposium which will be jointly organized by the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) and China Geological Survey (CGS) on 18~21 October, 2010 in Shanghai, China. This Symposium will perfectly annotate “Urban Geology and Urban Sustainable Development” and the theme “Better City, Better Life” of Shanghai Expo 2010.

l   Methods and technical standards for urban geological survey (e.g., geophysical survey, remote sensing survey, contents on different geographical and functional backgrounds, evaluation methods for stability and suitability of geo-environment, evaluation methods for urban resources and environmental capacity, urban geological guides)

l   Construction of urban geo-information system (e.g., 3-D geological structural modelling, 3-D visualization system, urban geo-information sharing and social service system)

l   Applications of urban geology (e.g., urban planning, management and construction, resource management and construction of underground space)

Grand Central Hotel Shanghai, which is a five-star hotel, was chosen

as the symposium and accommodation venue.

l   Address:

No.505 Jiujiang Road, situated at the urban centre of Shanghai city.

15km to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport(SHA), 40 km to Shanghai Pudong International Airport(PVG).  

 

l   Traffic:

East Nanjing Road Station of metro No. 2 from both Airports.

About 30 minutes and near ￥100 in taxi from Hongqiao airport, and about 50 minutes and near ￥150 from Pudong airport.
