Abstract
Stable and effective red-emitting phosphors hold importance applications for next-generation phosphor-converted white light-emitting diodes (pc-WLEDs). Here, europium-doped calcium orthoborate (Ca3B2O6: Eu3+) red phosphor was successfully prepared by high-temperature solid-phase method. The prepared samples were examined using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer, Raman spectrometer, and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy for their structural, morphology, optical, spectral and luminescence studies. Under 395 nm excitation, the phosphor shows characteristic emission for the Eu3+ ion 5D0 to 7FJ (J = 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4). The phosphors exhibit short decay time and good thermal stability. In additionally, the phosphor with CIE coordinates (0.65, 0.34) and the correspond fabricated pc-LED (0.57, 0.32) were found to be in the red spectrum region and owning high color purity, which shows promising potential in promoting plant growth lighting aspects.
