太田成男(Shigeo Ohta),日本医科大学老年病研究所首席教授,1951年生于日本福岛县。1974年毕业于东京大学理学部。1979年完成东京大学研究生部药学系研究科博士课程后,历任瑞士巴塞尔大学生命中心研究所研究员,自治医科大学讲师、副教授,自1994年起任现职。他从30余年的研究中发现,线粒体所具有的机能,和人的身心健康密切相关。他是日本线粒体研究最著名的科学家第。先后担任日本线粒体学会理事长、日本Cell Death学会理事长、氢分子生物医学研究会理事长等职务。著有与作家濑名秀明氏合著的《与线粒体共存》(角川书店)、《线粒体的威力》(新潮社)等多部著作。
在氢气生物学效应领域,太田教授于2007年7月在国际著名医学杂志《自然医学》上发表第一篇关于少量氢气治疗疾病的研究,提出氢气选择性抗氧化的新概念,启动了氢气治疗疾病的国际研究热潮。该文章发表以来,引起国际学术界的极大关注,目前已经被引用450多次,来自日本、中国和美国等国家的众多学者围绕呼吸氢气、饮用氢气水和注射氢气盐水等对各类疾病治疗效果的评价进行了广泛研究,已经先后用动物试验研究证明氢气对80多种重要疾病具有治疗作用。太田教授联合美国的张和教授、Nakao教授和中国的孙学军教授于2011年5月创办《医学气体研究》杂志,目前已经成为氢气生物医学研究学术论文发表的最主要期刊。
太田教授是氢气生物学的奠基人,不仅提出了氢气治疗疾病的选择性抗氧化理论,而且率先在国际上证明氢气对脑缺血、肝脏缺血、心肌缺血、肥胖、巴金森病具有治疗作用,积极和企业合作开发氢气水等相关产品,并在企业赞助下建立国际上第一个专门研究氢气生物学效应的氢气医学研究中心,而且他自己热心帮助和指导年轻学者开展氢气生物学研究,也积极开发相关氢气相关产品,大力推动日本氢气临床转化医学研究,撰写多部健康有关科谱书籍,对日本和国际氢气生物医学的发展作出了不可替代的作用。
