The successful candidate will develop his/her dissertation in the frame of the research
project COPAF - COASTLINE CHANGES OF THE SOUTHERN BALTIC SEA - PAST ND FUTURE PROJECTION.

The research program targets (1) Paleogeographic scenarios (maps, digital data) of the
development of the southern Baltic Sea coast due to the interplay of neotectonics, eustatic change and coastal morphogenesis (and anthropogenic activities) for the last 1000 years on regional scale for the Polish coastline and on a local scale for selected areas in western Poland, and (2) projections to the future (maps, digital data) as scenarios of coastline change based on paleo-geographic trend analysis and results of climate modeling. These targets require the development and application of models that mirror the interrelation of coastal change and its driving forces. As the latter ones are distinguished here the vertical crustal movement, climatically driven sea level change, meteorological/hydrographical forces - and reactions of the society living in the coastal areas. The cause and effect relation will be described by different types of models, from statistical approaches through mechanistic models to GIS methods.

Requirements:
• Diplom/Masters degree in geosciences;
• Strong interest in marine geosciences and geoinformatics / modeling;
• Prior experience in GIS, geostatistics, and computer application;
• Ability for team work and interdisciplinary research;
• very good skills in English language;

The position is limited to a term of up to 3 years and is funded by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The monthly stipend amounts to 2,000 PLN. Free
accomodation in a one room apartment of a student dormitory will be offered by the
University of Szczecin.
