百度翻译功能越来越强大，但还是有些地方不尽如人意。今天只说一点：有时候识别不出英语习语来。比如：

Indeed, Hawking may have had his tongue firmly in his cheek.

百度翻译为：事实上，霍金可能已经把舌头紧紧地贴在脸上了。

但是如果去掉其中的 firmly，也就是：Indeed, Hawking may have had his tongue in his cheek.

百度翻译就能识别出来：事实上，霍金可能是在开玩笑。

这指的是：1980年，史蒂芬·霍金（Hawking）在剑桥大学发表演讲时谈起物理学需要计算机/人工智能帮助的事，他调侃道“The end might not be in sight for theoretical physics, but it might be in sight for theoretical physicists.”

have one's tongue in one's cheek，with tongue in cheek， tongue in cheek的意思是“调侃，开玩笑（To speak ironically or mockingly; slyly insincere；Humorously or as a joke, though seeming or appearing to be serious；in a way that is not serious and that is meant to be funny talking）”

上述例子中，习语中加了个firmly就识别不出来。说明什么？说明语言的使用是高度变异的，机器翻译不可能穷尽所有的变异形式，因此，机器翻译虽然很有帮助，但单靠机器翻译是不可靠的。
