在广义相对论中,事件是连续的和确定的,这意味着每一个原因都匹配一个特定的局部效应。在量子力学中,由亚原子粒子相互作用产生的事件以跳跃的形式发生(是的,量子跳跃),其结果是概率的,而不是确定的。量子规则允许经典物理学禁止的连接。(In general relativity, events are continuous and deterministic, meaning that every cause matches up to a specific, local effect.
