JHM投稿范围介绍 | Refining the scope
The definition of hazardous materials, which is a general term frequently used across disciplines, could be broad and sometimes confusing. For example, under specific circumstances, many substances, such as broken glasses, construction wastes, medicines, and toxic chemicals, may be recognized as hazardous materials. Therefore, a clarification of hazardous materials is necessary to define the scope of JHM for our authors and reviewers.
“Environmental relevance” is a criterion inherent to the journal origin for evaluating suitability of a manuscript for JHM. Because of lacking environmental relevance, several topics previously accepted and published in JHM are now being excluded from our updated scope. Authors are supposed to address two questions in their manuscripts: 1) is the studied subject an environmental contaminant? and 2) is the study conducted under an environmentally relevant condition?
“Environmental contaminants” exclude the compounds that do not
exert hazardous effects on the environment or humans via contamination. Of note, difference between wastes and hazardous materials needs to be spotlighted to further clarify the JHM scope. The journal is highly interested in specific compounds or microbial agents with environmentally hazardous effects.
To help emphasize the environmental relevance of a paper, we strongly encourage authors to discuss and highlight environmental implications of major findings in their manuscripts. In addition, a statement of environmental implications must be included in the submission, as described in the Guide for Authors:
A precise definition of a journal’s scope can be challenging nowadays, especially given increasingly interdisciplinary research. JHM aims to become an international leader for publishing high-quality research to address urgent and emerging environmental issues in the world. We look forward to your submissions!
Journal of Hazardous Materials (JHM),Journal of Hazardous Materials Letters (JHM Letters), 和Journal of Hazardous Materials Advances (JHMA)。
