The motivation behind establishing the Journal of Hazardous Materials Advances (JHM Advances) is to better service the environmental science and engineering communities by publishing cutting edge research that captures both fundamental sciences and practical knowledge.  JHM Advances offers the exact same high-quality handling as JHM and JHM Letters, which launched in 2020. Both JHM Letters and JHM Advances are Open Access, a critical trademark for this journal, highlighting the potential impacts from the free access and fast knowledge transfer. Elsevier is supporting the transition to Open Access by waiving all Article Processing Charges (APCs) in the first year so authors who submit and are accepted for publication incur no cost. JHM authors may be offered a transfer to JHM Advances, without the need to resubmit their paper, easing the burden of the submission process and ensuring papers are assigned to an Editor with matching expertise and capacity to handle the paper in a timely manner and secure high- quality feedback.
