ERC for Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials

An Engineering Research Center for Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials (ERC-RMB), funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), invites applications for a PhD position to study and work in a cross-disciplinary and inter-institutional environment. The successful candidates will work on the ERC project with faculty, senior research scientists and students from North Carolina A & T State University, University of Pittsburgh, University of Cincinnati, and Hannover Medical School in Germany. The ERC projects are aimed at developing a new class of multifunctional, implantable, biodegradable metallic biomaterials for cranial facial, orthopedic and cardiovascular applications.
The successful candidates should have solid knowledge in metallurgy, phase diagram, metallography as well as various characterization technologies. Hands-on experience of magnesium alloy processing will be a plus. The research area will be related to designing and developing of new magnesium alloy biomaterials with outstanding corrosion, mechanical and biological properties.
