6. I’m very tired and it’s late. So I’m going to hit the hay.

7. Everything’s gone badly this week, and today I lost my wallet! That’s the last straw.

8. I’ve been eating too much this week, and I’m gaining weight. I’d better nip the habit in the bud and start eating less. (to nip something in the bud)

9. I heard through the grapevine that you’re moving to New York. Is it true?

10. James decided to turn over a new leaf. This time he would not make the same mistakes.

11. I’m up a tree with this homework assignment. I just don’t know how to do it.
