Recently I watched a short video by Cambridge University’s Vice President (Hehe, another female university leader after MIT and Harvard). In the speech, she described some principles of building the Cambridge into an international university.
Firstly, Cambridge is still a British university. It has to serve the needs from British people. It explained that its 85% of undergraduates are British.
Secondly, Cambridge is also going to be an international one. Now more than 50% of postgraduates are from foreign countries. The British natives who apply PhD are decreasing each year.
Thirdly, Cambridge will make it more accessible either locally or globally. It dedicated itself to develop a user-friendly web frameworks. That’s the reason why she titled her speech as “The Distant Fen”, and said that “The Distant Fen is no longer distant”.
