In the United States, graduates of philosophy programs typically struggle to find employment. So, what can they do? They can either continue pursuing a Ph.D. in philosophy or consider transitioning to the field of Library and Information Science, which is a good choice. In the library field, you will encounter librarians with diverse backgrounds, including music, psychology, history, social sciences, biology, and various other disciplines. This is because most library and information science programs in the United States are at the graduate level, and library positions usually require a bachelor's degree in a field other than library and information science. Obtaining a Master of Library and Information Science degree accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) is particularly noteworthy as it is considered the terminal degree for academic librarians.
