Academic journals usually charge authors for color images (pictures, graphs)although our journal does not charge color image pubication fee in recent two years.

In fact, in many cases it is completely unnecessary to use color images to present what the authors want to express, a single color is enough. You can use varied grey scales of bars, or different bar patterns to show it.  Here is an example(the picture is from internet):
