Majorana fermions are "real" fermions with their antiparticles as
themselves. The search for Majorana fermions in high energy physics is
long. Neutrinos are thought by some theorest to be Majorana fermions, but
nothing is sure. In condensed matter physics, Majorana fermions could
appear as some kind of quasiparticles. And this bizarre collective
excitation is responsible for a lot of interesting phenomena: fermion zero
mode, non-local edge states, non-abliean anyons, etc..
In this seminar, I would like to tell some basic physics underlying
Majorana fermions, and then discuss a simple and well-known model of
spinless p-wave superconductor in which Marorana zero mode could appear
naturally. Finally, some analogues models related to topological insulators
will be talked.
