Even in the US, medical mistakes are not uncommon. If one does not die from heart attack and cancer, he'e better watch out for his doctors. Here are some statistics:

ps. I can speak from my own experience, too. I almost died from taking low-dosage antibiotics for latent TB a few years ago. What's worse, the accident was not even included in my medical record right away.
