I knew little about Xiamen, except for the fact that a colleague enjoys living there more than in his hometown, Hangzhou.
With that curiosity, I arrived in Xiamen today for my week-long visit. The visibility was bad in the early afternoon when we were landing, worse than the smog in Hangzhou.
I was surprised by how close the airport is to the city, right at its northern end. I didn't know Xiamen is an island, and has mountains, just like Hawaii. (Wait a minute, I traveled for more than 10 hours to see another island?)
My colleague toured me around the campus this afternoon. I think this is the best campus I have seen so far in China. (Who wants to name a better campus?)
I chose to have dinner on campus, and was surprised by the choices the students have: What a nice food court they have at 芙蓉小吃城.
