A college classmate wanted to do some sightseeing after the Ocean Science Meeting in Salt Lake City in Feb. 2012. I wrote to her: "It's too cold to visit northern states. The only places I would recommend are South Florida and southern California."
After I clicked "send," I asked myself WHY not "South California" and "southern Florida." WHY NOT? Well, you can google these names, and tell me why not.
