First of all, there are too many smokers. Outdoor café is nice, but I was often surrounded by smokes.
Food in Toulouse is way too salty, as if the chef forgot that he put in lots of salt already and decided that he should throw in some more sea salt. I don’t know how healthy the locals are, with such salty food day in day out.
I found the food portion is too big, as big as in the States. Not even one meal I could finish, be it salads or a main course! I felt so bad about wasting food to the point I didn’t feel like eating out again. I really wanted to try the pizza with mussels on, but what was I supposed to do with the half pizza that I could not finish?
I noticed one day that my waiter’s hands were taking care of
trash bin, cutting bread (probably including those in the basket on my table), picking
his nose in front of me, etc. I tried not to think about it; at least my main
course was safe: it’s baked in the foil.
Sure, there are lots of things I do like about Toulouse. I think people here dress more nicely than those in the States. I like the small shops in the city. However, people liter a lot, especially the cigarette ashes and butts. I even saw people spitting!
I am leaving Toulouse in a few hours. Not sure I will want to return.
