If you want a nice haircut in Honolulu, you may want to try marsha nadalin at Kahala, which is on the "rich side" of H-1.
I went to marsha a few years ago, out of desperation. I wanted a short haircut before attending a small workshop because I wanted to look good. The Supercuts next door assigned me a male staff. I don't think it's because he is a male, but my hair looked like a perfect makeup for a "maid in training." And, it was super short. I wanted to cry! But there was no time for shedding tears. I called a few friends who have short hair, and I was told to try marcha nadalin.
That is how I met my hair stylist Cori. She reminded me of a scientist doing her experiment at a lab, except she was cutting my hair. She did not chat unless spoken to, which is very unusual at a hair salon. The result was fantastic! Many of my colleagues at the workshop noticed my hair, because it was soooooo stylish. Of course, she was not cheap, and her rate went up when I visited her again. Finally, she moved on, to a new store at Ala Moana Shopping Center.
I had a wonder experience last summer in Qingdao, when my big sister dragged me into a hair salon. She thought I looked awful with my long hair, and I knew I needed a makeover except I was too busy. The hair stylist there was a man, very dedicated to his work. I was hoping to visit him again in late March this year, but the nuclear crisis in Japan made me cancel my spring trip. That was why I went back to marsha, again. Actually, I went that for eyebrows first. Some staff messed up my appointment, and I had to go back the next day. I was not happy, even when I was given 20% off for my visit.
To my surprise, when I went there the next day, the manager on duty told me to receive the service for free. Free? What a way to "trap" me, since their data probably showed that I was not a "frequent" visitor. Of course not, since it's expensive to go there. This time, it was Keri, a young lady with a ring in her upper lip (or her lower lip?). She was confident, and gave me a nice surprise with her magic hands! Since the result was so good, I started to advertize for her for free, by telling some friends at work to try her.
With my new eyebrows, my hair cried out for a makeover, too. So, the next step was clearly to try a new hair stylist at marsha, since I don't like to drive and park when I can walk. Even though a haircut costs $45-90 at marsha, it's much cheaper than a r/t ticket to Qingdao.
This time, I was assigned to Brad. In fact, it was to remember Brad that I decided to write this Blog. I don't want to carry Brad's card in my wallet, but I don't want to forget him, either. Brad is such an easy-going person. The reason why I want to go back to him is because he is the ONLY hair stylist who cut my hair and my hair does not "fight back" everyday. For women who have short hair, at least for me, the fear is NOT knowing what my hair would look like the next day. Soooo many days, I went to work with hair on one side sticking out horizontally. Since I am super-sensitive to smells (that's another story), I cannot use anything like gel or spray to "train" my hair. And I don't want to wear a hat all day long.
So, Brad, you are my hair stylist for life. Please don't leave me by moving away!
