You know how to study, or how to get good grades in school. Good grades have helped you to get into a good undergraduate program at a top university in Beijing, and into a Master’s program at a decent school in the U.S. However, grades can only carry you so far up the social ladder; the rest is somewhere in books or in God’s hands.

Be kind to others, and to your own body and soul.

Be honest to others, and to yourself, too.

Respect others, no matter what social classes they came from or what skin colors they have.

Work hard on your own, because a woman needs to stand on her own feet, not her parents’ or her husband’s.

No matter what your birth name is, or what (English) nick name you use, once you are out of your motherland, your name is “Chinese.”
