美癌症研究基金会日前宣布,将第七届圣捷尔吉癌症研究创新成就奖授予中国工程院院士王振义和中国科学院院士陈竺,以表彰他们在急性早幼粒细胞白血病(APL)研究中取得的原创性成果及开发的全新疗法。
急性早幼粒细胞白血病曾被认为是最为凶险、病程发展迅速的白血病之一。但王振义和陈竺两位科学家将传统中药的砷剂与西药结合起来用于治疗,使急性早幼粒细胞白血病患者的“五年无病生存率”从大约25%跃升至95%。
如今,这种联合疗法已成为急性早幼粒细胞白血病标准疗法,从而将此种过去高致命的疾病变成了高度可治愈的疾病。
