Randy W. Schekman (December 30, 1948 -), male, born in Sao Paulo, Minnesota, USA, studied at the University of California, Los Angeles and Stanford University successively, and obtained a doctoral degree in 1974. The tutor is the famous Professor Arthur Koenberg (who won the Nobel Prize in 1959). In 1976, Shekman worked at the University of California, Berkeley. He was a professor in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology of the University, and also a researcher at Howard Hughes Medical Research Institute. He was the chief editor of the Journal of the National Academy of Sciences. In 1992, he was elected as a member of the National Academy of Sciences. In 2002, he and James Rothman won the Lasker Prize for Basic Medicine for their research on cell membrane transport. 2013 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
