王老师忘了McScience的“出处”——那“本来”是我根据McMansion（“土楼”）造的词儿，本来就没有出处。可到google去看，才发现它已经有过了，顿时像太白兄读了武皇后的“归来验取石榴裙”一样“爽然若失”（《柳亭诗话》）。

Wiktionary的定义是：

McScience (uncountable)

1. (slang, pejorative) The unethical commercialization of science, as for example where results are deliberately misinterpreted in exchange for large grants from a corporation. 

2. 我造那词儿的意思也许可以列为第2个义项。

我是从“土楼”引出的，突出它的“理论色彩”——就是“老土”特色。词典的那个意思是从McDonald来的，强调“利益本色”。有人给了一个例句：

The claim that global warming is a hoaxis a blatant example of McScience.

烤面包当然需要全球变暖，那样能省些柴火。不过，传说更Mc的科学是在生命科学和医学领域。十年前，Lancet编辑（后来的主编）Richard Horton有本MMR Science & Fiction - Exploring the Vaccine crisis GrantaPublications（Granta Books, 2004），其第3章叫“The Dawnof McScience”，不知是不是McSc.的最早出处。Horton还借同样的标题在《纽约时报书评》上引介Sheldon Krimsky的Sciencein the Private Interest: Has the Lure of Profits Corrupted Biomedical Research?（Rowman &Littlefield Publishers, 2004）——书的副标题概括了它揭露的问题：“大学成了财富机器”（universities have become little more than instruments of wealth），那么问题就来了：

How can an academic scientist honor  knowledge for its own sake, while also using knowledge as a means to generate wealth?

How did scientists begin choosing proprietary gain over the pursuit of knowledge?

What effects have academic-corporatepartnerships had on the quality and    integrity of science? And, most importantly, how does this affect the public?

Horton在书评里抄了一段教皇保罗二世（John Paul II）在2002年3月给驻波兰的教廷大使的信：

The pre-eminence of the profit motive inconducting scientific research ultimately means that science is deprived of itsepistemological character, according to which its primary goal is discoveryof the truth. The risk is that when research takes a utilitarian turn, its  speculative dimension, which is the inner dynamic of man’s intellectual journey, will be diminished or stifled.

利益的驱动使科学偏离追求真理的目标，功利的研究将失去探索的动力——最后那句用词很准确，dimension will be diminished or stifled. 智力的旅程是多维的，把探索维阻断了，就像把麦当劳的鸡翅丢了，只好喝可乐吃薯条（夹奶油和大白菜的汉堡我是不吃的）。

总结一下，McS现在有两个意思，一个是为了好看（或自以为好看），一个是为了好吃——当然个人的口味不同，庄子就不吃惠子喜欢的东西。
