杂草的哲学

这是一棵小草的自述。它为自己是一棵青草，没有感到悲哀和怨恨。即使被园丁拔掉，它也无怨无悔。它知道，即使是一颗草，那也是上天让它来到这个世界上，让它有所作为，在自然界中完成它自己独特的作用和意义，为这个世界贡献它的芬芳、它的生命。这似乎和中国的哲学观“天生我材必有用”相一致。结尾处，小草大声疾呼：大自然赋予了我使命，为了这个使命，生是一棵草，死也是一棵草！

THE WEED'S PHILOSOPHY

吾实非不幸，Nay, but tell me, am I not unlucky indeed,

生而为杂草。To arise from the earth and be only a weed ?

小小种子育，Ever since I came out of my dark little seed,

顽强成青草。I have tried to live rightly, but still am a weed.

园丁却鄙视，To be torn by the roots and destroyed this my meed.

连根都毁掉。And despised by the gardener for being a weed.

吾为何而生？Ah ! but why was I born when man longs to be freed

厄运如此遭。Of a thing so obnoxious and bad as a weed ?

肯问众芳草，Now the cause of myself and my brothers I plead,

来世为何劳？Say can any good come of my being a weed ?

万物皆有命，If a purpose divine is in all things decreed,

青草亦香飘。Then there must be some benefit from me a weed.

苦难人生世，If of evil and suffering the world still has need

征程路迢迢，In its path of development, then I a weed

自然使命赋，Must form part of that plan which in Nature I read,

生死只为草。Though I live but to die just for being a weed.
