近期，Simon Harold按照出生月份和日期顺序列出了已故的著名生态学家。通过维基百科名人介绍，Simon Harold发现了生态学家有趣的一面，如“生态系统”概念的提出者Tansley曾跟着精神分析大师Freud学习精神分析；古生物学家Buckland曾经发誓要尝遍整个动物界每个物种的味道，作者打趣到他难道也要吃吃苍蝇不成？

生态学家首先是社会人，然后才是生态学家。他们中有些社会工作做得也突出，如Margaret Collins为公民权利而呐喊，Miriam Rothschild为争取男同性恋的正当权益而呐喊，Annie Lorraine Smith，Marian Farquharson和Mary Agnes Chase为妇女争取选举权的举动甚至有些疯狂，其中Chase还由于在白宫前焚烧总统的讲稿而被捕入狱，是一个“莫道书生空议论”的典型代表。

这些生态学大家的轶事读起来活灵活现，能使我们对他们在生态上的重大发现有更加感性的认识。他们虽已故去，但依然鲜活可爱。

遗憾的是，目前的名单只有一位中国学者—胡先骕，作者也在倡议说出你所知道的生态学大家。因此我留言推荐我国的植物生理生态家—李继侗和植物学家—吴征镒。

26^th Nov Ruth Patrick (1907-2013) Pioneering US freshwater ecologist, and first woman to be awarded the Eminent Ecologist award from the Ecological Society of America.
