      20世纪卓越的泥盆纪植物研究专家Suzanne Célina Marie Julie JoséphineLeclercq (1901--1994)是最早进入比利时学术界的杰出女性之一。她首创了“针修法( dégagement technique)” (Leclercq, 1960)，为世界同行所采用。也许青年学生不太清楚，Suzanne Leclercq的早期研究对象是石炭纪煤核植物化石(coal balls)。

    1920年，Suzanne Leclercq入读比利时列日大学(University of Liège)学习物理学。但她后来跟随古生物学家Charles Marie Joseph Julien Fraipont (1883--1946)从事古植物学博士论文研究。当时，时任比利时地质调查局局长的Armand Renier (1876--1951)已经在比利时境内Wérister煤矿(coal mines of Wérister, Belgium)发现了石炭纪的矿化植物标本--煤核。Suzanne Leclercq很幸运，在比利时率先开展了研究煤核研究，于1924年获得博士学位，并正式供职于列日大学。

1928年，Suzanne Leclercq访问了英国曼彻斯特(Manchester, UK)，与John Walton (1895--1971)研究煤核研究。值得注意的是，该年John Walton在英国NATURE杂志发表了一篇短文，首创了煤核植物研究的新方法—撕片法(peels)。自那时起，Suzanne Leclercq与英国同行开展了长期而密切的科学合作。

到20世纪30年代末，Suzanne Leclercq研究煤核植物已有15年的经历，取得了很多学术成果。可是，她突然改变了她的研究方向，开始聚焦中泥盆纪植物的研究(Middle Devonian—距今约370--359 个百万年)。有位著名学者说，在Armand Renier的敦促下Suzanne Leclercq放弃了煤核研究，而转攻泥盆纪植物化石。

从Suzanne Leclercq的正式出版物来看，1939年她发表第一篇有关泥盆纪植物的论文。这标志着Suzanne Leclercq基本完成了学术转型。参见下列文献：

Suzanne Leclercq对泥盆纪植物化石开展了严谨而深入的解剖学研究，取得了一系列研究成果，在国际古植物学界享有很高的学术声誉。

1953—1954年，Suzanne Leclercq担任比利时地质学会会长(president of the Sociétéde Belgique géologique)。1965年，当选为比利时皇家科学人文及艺术科学院院士(member of the Royal Academy of Science, Letters and Fine Arts of Belgium)。她还当选为美国植物学会通讯会员(corresponding member of the Botanical Society of America)。

1971年，Suzanne Leclercq退休。1994年在列日(Liège)去世，享年93岁。

--1965: Elected to corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Sciences, Letters and Fine Arts of Belgium;

--Elected to the corresponding member of the Botanical Society of America;

--1971: Got retired;

--1994: died in Liège on 12 June 1994.
