--William Hutton (FRS, 1797--1860)

   William Hutton (FRS, 1797--1860)是19世纪上半叶英国地质古生物学家。William Hutton的正规学校教育很少。William Hutton是煤层(coal measures)专家，他采集和收藏了很多植物化石。19世纪30年代，英国著名植物学家、兰科植物专家John Lindley (FRS,1799--1865)和William Hutton合作，发表了3卷古植物学著作《英国化石植物》(The Fossil Flora of Great Britain)，为英国古植物学历史上重要的经典文献。  

   1840年，William Hutton当选为英国皇家学会会员（院士）。参见：

   William Hutton (FRS, 1797--1860)was a British practical geologist with little formal education. He collected lots of fossil plants from the coal measures in the UK. William Hutton collaborated with self-taught botanist John Lindley (FRS, 1799--1865) to study fossil plants. They co-authored the 3-volume work of Fossil Flora of Great Britain inthe 1830s.

   William Hutton was elected to the Royal Society in 1840.
