世界上只有很小很小的一小撮人有缘于古植物学研究。尽管古植物学是很小很小的小众文化，但是古植物学的研究舞台却非常广阔。古植物学研究者主要探索埋藏在地球岩石圈中的化石植物王国，同时关注现存于地球生态系统中的现代植物王国，进而深刻认识和理解植物的多样性、系统性和复杂性及其与全球环境变化的关系。

   美国古植物学家Charles Nash Miller, Jr.是研究松科化石的著名专家。1965年毕业于密歇根大学(University of Michigan)，获得博士学位，导师为著名古植物学家Chester Arthur Arnold(1901--1977)。

   Charles Nash Miller, Jr.在其职业生涯主要供职于University of Montana植物系（ Missoula, Montana），现已退休。他采集和研究的植物化石，参见：
