密歇根大学（Ann Arbor）是美国赫赫有名的公立研究型大学，其古植物学研究开始于20世纪20年代末。80多年来，供职于密歇根大学的职业古植物学家屈指可数，而且均为现代植物学专业出身。经过几代人的不懈努力，密歇根大学为美国古植物学乃至世界古植物学的发展做出了重要贡献，不愧为世界一流大学的光荣称号。

   密歇根大学古植物学后继有人，青年古植物学家Selena Y. Smith博士入职密歇根大学。我们期待，密歇根大学为稳步发展21世纪美国古植物学而添光增彩。

   密歇根大学创建于1817年，是美国历史上最悠久的公立大学之一，在国际学术界享有很高的声誉。有人认为，密歇根大学与加州大学伯克利分校并称美国公立大学两大巨头。

   密歇根大学有很多华裔校友，如：美籍华裔物理学家、1976年度诺贝尔物理学奖获得者丁肇中（1936--），他于1962年从该校获得物理学博士学位。

∮3 Chester Arthur Arnold (1901--1977) 与密歇根大学古植物学

   Chester Arthur Arnold曾是美国古植物学的一位学术领袖。1928年，时任密歇根大学植物系主任的植物学教授Harley H. Barlett (1886--1960) [ Chairman of the Botany Department at the University of Michigan]聘任Chester Arthur Arnold为植物学教员（Instructor of botany）。翌年，Chester Arthur Arnold被任命为古生物博物馆负责植物化石的管理和研究。1947年Chester Arthur Arnold晋升为植物学和地质学教授。1970年退休。参见：
