已故美国孢粉学家Robert M. Kosanke (1917--1996)和Aureal Theophilus Cross (1916--2013)在本科阶段都是Leonard R. Wilson（1906--1998）的学生，也都是John Hobart Hoskins （1896---1957）的研究生。Robert M. Kosanke从University of Cincinnati获得硕士学位后在Illinois State Geological Survey Coal Group工作，同时到University of Illinois (UIUC)跟随Wilson Nichols Stewart （1917--2004）攻读博士学位。

1941年，Robert M. Kosanke和Aureal Theophilus Cross的妹妹Avalonne Jane完婚。自1963年，Robert M. Kosanke开始供职于美国联邦地质调查局古生物学和地层学分局，服务USGS长达30年。
