德国博物学家Franz Anton Menge (1808--1880)

         19世纪德国博物学家Franz Anton Menge (1808--1880)的实际职业是中学教师。他在教学之余从事地质学、动物学和植物学研究，主要研究昆虫学（包括昆虫化石），也涉及到植物化石。  

           1808年，Franz Anton Menge出生于德国威斯特法伦的Arnsberg小镇(Arnsberg, Westphalia)。他在家乡完成中学学业，1828年入读波恩大学学习自然科学。他是地质学家Johann Jakob Nöggerath (1788--1877)的学生。

         1832年，Franz Anton Menge从波恩大学毕业，从此开始教书生涯。1833—1836年，Franz Anton Menge在今属波兰的Grudziądz（德语“Graudenz”）担任中学教师。然后，他到Grudziądz以北的历史文化名城Gdańsk（英文“Gdańsk”）继续担任中学老师。

          Gdańsk位于波兰波罗的海沿岸，盛产琥珀化石。Franz Anton Menge在Gdańsk工作了42年。Franz Anton Menge为Gdańsk自然历史博物馆（Danziger naturforschenden Gesellschaft）会员，且参与该馆的管理工作很多年。

           Franz Anton Menge发表很多论著。涉及植物化石的工作有：

       1880年，Franz Anton Menge在Gdańsk去世。他的琥珀昆虫化石等标本保存在Gdańsk自然历史博物馆。
