命运如潮

莎翁的历史剧Julius Caesar的语言相对通俗。第四幕第三场中Brutus有段独白感慨命运，读后颇有共鸣。命运如潮，时不我待。
There is a tide in the affairs of men,
Which, taken at the flood, leads on the fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves
Or lose our ventures. (216-222)
Julius Caesar其实更是Brutus的悲剧。为保卫共和与自由的理想，他背叛并参与刺死Caesar。此后，他出于贵族的大度，没有及时剪除Antony。于是Antony有机会发表葬礼演讲，争取了罗马民众，驱逐了Brutus及其同盟者。最后，Brutus兵败自刎。这是公元前44年的事情，比性格和命运相似的西楚霸王晚了158年。
