Have we met? Have we passed each other in the corridor and smiled in greeting? Or exchanged a word or two perhaps? If we have not, then we will not now since I am away from campus this week, and I am the poorer therefore for not knowing you.
In response to your own beautiful poetry here is a poem by Longfellow. It sums up the all too brief acquaintance we often share with our honoured visitors who leave us much too soon.
"Ships that pass in the night and speak each other in passing; Only a signal shown and a distant voice in the darkness; So on the ocean of life we pass and speak one another, Only a look and a voice; then darkness again and a silence."
