The west of the sun

Once I set out, I will not stop in the middle. I will try my best to arrive at my destination. When I don’t know where my destination is, I wish I could arrive at the end of every road to see all the views that pass by so that I could figure out my destination somewhat.

After a windy and rainy week, Sunshine brought me a warm and lazy weekend. There was a half-Marathon race on the sea front. After the church service, I rode my bicycle directly to the sea front. The race was almost over, only a few runners had not yet arrive at the finishing line. The organizers were waiting for them. I stood there too watching the runners arrive. When they finally reached the finishing line, people were applauding them no matter how slow they were for a race.

I then turned toward the west……to explore where I had never been. I did not know where I would go, what I would find, what would make me stay for a while. I just rode to the west in front of the sea.

At the end of the promenade on the seafront, I switched to another road. a wall blocked my sight of the sea, but I knew the sea was there, I just rode on a road parallel to the sea……I supposed I would never get to the end of the road since the sea has no end……then where should I stop? Could I just keep on cycling?

In order to be as close to the sea as possible, I climbed up a small wild hill and then came to a road covered by some small stones led me further to the west. I did not know how far I could explore, since there was no reason to stop, I just walked on until a closed door stopped me.

A closed door! How disappointed I was! I had ridden all the way just to find a closed door at the end of the road.

However, beside the closed door, there was a little lane that led somewhere. Could I go down this lane? It maybe led to aprivate back garden of someone’s house that they would not allow me to invade. However I really could not stop at this closed door and return home with this feeling of failure. But where would I find courage to go further? So, I made a decision. I would go down this lane even if I was arrested. Luckily it turned out to be a public access to a beach with the piles of small stones.

Some rocks were piled up in the road so that no one could cycle here. There was still a narrow winding trail from these rocks, so that people can enjoy a walk along this trail. I certainly could cycle along this trail, but I was tired, I followed the stream of people and cast my sight over the sea, can I reach it?

Below the hill was the foreshore covered by small stones. Some people were just sitting there and enjoying the sunshin ethat they could not get easily. A dazzling smile of a little girl caught my eye------she was just digging some holes and trying to bury some treasures inside. Her father just sat there and watched over his daughter with a smile.

I could not help but leave my bicycle and stepped down onto the bench.

 “Can I join you?”

Sure!

We then picked out the little stones which we liked best. I found one white glittering and translucent stone. It had hidden itself in the brown stones and lost its own characteristics. I then picked out these stones one by one and saw them shining like beautiful jewelry. The little girl, Emma, then looked for them all over the beach.

We then chatted with each other about what we were looking for……we realized that everything came together for a reason. So, how did these little stones come here? I did not know, I did not even know where the road that people had paved was going. What kind of destination will bring to my life at the end of the road.

It was there. The man pointed to the wall just in front of us. Really? The goal was so near: then what would the end ofthe road bring to me? Another disappointment?

Anyway, it was my destination. So I stood up and intended to leave. The little girl reminded me to take the jewelry stone with me. I then picked some up and rode my bicycle again to see what was at the end of road.

At the end of the road that human beings have paved was the remembrance of love. Though only two stories were nailed here, it was enough for me to understand the meaning of life. “Love leaves a heartache that no one can heal. Love leaves a memory that no one can steal, always in our thoughts.”Although over the years the writing has become illegible, but it is still clear enough to mark the sense of life.

I then asked someone to take some picturesof me to remember this moment.

Opposite this wall began the town Shoreham-by-sea which could not be reached by this small road. But I did not want to go to a town where people were living their everyday life.

Over this wall was the boundlessness of the sea where I could not cycle. Certainly I could build a boat and go out to sea to discover how our love cure the heartache that love leaves to us. Our life and our vision hence will be broadened.

We just have to be braver and more tenacious……but this vision deserves all our efforts because it is our destination.
