Ping Research Group (Ph.D. Student Recruitment)
University of California, Santa Cruz
Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the position of one Ph.D. student in Theoretical/Computational Materials Chemistry, under the direction of Dr. Yuan Ping.
Biography:
Dr. Yuan Ping started as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Cruz from July, 2016. Before joining UCSC, she was a Materials Postdoc Fellow at California Institute of Technology- a DOE energy hub - Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis (JCAP) under supervision of Prof. Prof. William A. Goddard III from August, 2013. Prior to joining JCAP, she obtained her Ph.D. at the University of California, Davis under supervision ofProf. Giulia Galli (currently at University of Chicago). Her undergraduate study was at the University of Science and Technology of China (Class 0303, 2003-2007).
Research:
Dr. Yuan Ping’s research interest focuses on developing and employing theoretical and computational methods (including Density Functional Theory, Many Body Perturbation Theory GW/BSE, Ab-initio Molecular Dynamics) to understand and predict optical, carrier transport, and catalytic properties of materials from first-principles calculations, for energy conversion and quantum information applications.
