Brazilian rubber tree is an important cash crop in the tropics of China. In order to accelerate the rapid development of natural rubber industry and promote the solution of key technical problems in rubber tree cultivation ecology, the rubber plantation ecology research team of Rubber Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences has invited Dr. Gerhard Langenberger, Hornheim University, Germany, to come to the Rubber Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (RRI-CATAS)and Danzhou Investigation & Experiment Station of Tropical Crops, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China(DIESTCMA) for academic exchange and possible international cooperation under the assistance of the project of introducing intelligence from the State Foreign Special Bureau between 29th October and 5th November.
During Dr. Gerhard Langenberger’s visit, he has gave some presentations on integrating native trees in rubber monocultures, sustainable rubber cultivation, rubber intercropping, environmental and socio-economic impacts of rubber cultivation, near natural forest research in Germany and research activities of his group, and shared his experiences with colleagues of RRI,CATAS. Field visits have been arranged to Danzhou Investigation & Experiment Station of Tropical Crops, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China and near natural management experimental plots for rubber plantation.
Finally, the two sides held a discussion and introduced in detail the research work done by their researchers in the past and the current research directions, and discussed further research cooperation and exchange of visits.
