2005年，Hirsch[1]提出作者h指数用于测评学者个人的科研绩效，现已成为国际信息计量学最主要的新兴热点[2]。h指数研究到底有多热？这里以两种重要期刊的Web of Science的数据，给出另一个证据（如表所示）。

《Journal of The American Society for Information Science and Technology》（JASIST）也许是情报学最重要刊物，《Scientometrics》也许是科学计量学最重要刊物。由表可见，在h指数出现后，《JASIST》刊发的最有影响力的5篇文章中，有两篇都是h指数研究。而《Scientometrics》被引频次TOP5则全部被h指数研究囊括。实际上，此期间《JASIST》被引频次6－10位中的第6和第7篇论文也与h指数有关，《Scientometrics》被引频次6－10位中还有3篇论文是h指数主题。
