(For new reader and thosewho request 好友请求, please read my 公告栏 first)
Since very young, I have always been interested in the Universe. One of the most inspiring book I read while growing up is the Gamow book - “One,Two, Three, . . , Infinity” However, the conventional wisdom at the time is that Astronomy is for the birds. One better study something practical such as engineering. So that sealed my fate (not that I am complaining).
But I still retained my interest about astronomy and the cosmos and kept up with developments and discoveries in the subject. More than a generation ago, the late Carl Sagan launched the famed documentary series “COSMOS”which coined among other things the well-known phrase “. . . billions and billions . .” (the series was seen by at least 500 million people across 60 different countries). Now 30+ years later, a new series with same name introduced by President Obama debuted tonight on TV. It certainly lived up to expectation. Even though I was familiar with almost all the facts (except one, guess what) in this first of this new film series. I was nevertheless moved and fascinated during the entire hour of the film. I am sure it will be available in China (let me know if this is true) and urge all ScienceNet reader to watch it.
