Recently an experiment was conducted in Ethiopia with a group of 4 to 11 year old children who are illiterate as well as their parents. The "one laptop per child" project gave each child an tablet PC with English language programming instruction only and simply left them to their own devices. One month later, the project went back and found rather astonishing results. The children through their natural curiosity, exploration, and teaching each other have in fact mastered the use of the PC tablet without knowledge of English ( In fact, they even managed to learn the English alphabet and rudimentary words by themselves without teachers). This has serious implication about teaching and group learning and the power of the graphic user interface (GUI). http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_9765000/9765200.stm Listen to the 3.5 minutes story.
Together with voice, is this the end of the keyboard for computers?
