American football is unique among team sports and among nations (I understand one game will be played in China next season for publicity purposes). The SuperBowl is the ultimate football game of the year. Estimated 70 million people will watch it (including my daughter who is working in Tanzania, Africa) It has become a week long affair with all kinds of media-celebrity-commerical promotions. The game award is named after the legendary football coach Vince Lombardi. 

Among his many sayings, here is one worth repeating for all who desire to succeed (as quoted today in the Parade Magazine):



We must relentlessly strive for “perfection”. In the process we shall catch “excellence”. I am not remotely interested in being “good”.




NOTE ADDED 2/5/08 On sunday evening we happen to be out driving to an
dinner engagement. On the highway there is little traffic and the restuarant
is quite empty as everyone is at home or a gathering watching the game. 
It is a strange feeling which you only experience on Christmas morning
where again everyone is at home.
