The “Forever Chemical” Problem
Decades ago, for various waterproof purposes, a chemical knowns as “Pfas” was synthesized to use in coating fabrics for rain gear and other waterproof purposes. The main property of this chemical is that it does not dissolve in or interact with water. In manufacturing, a great deal of such material leak into ground water or carelessly disposed of. When this chemical is ingested by human beings various health problem results. Consequently, their uses are now forbidden. However, previous deposits are still a remaining health problem unless clean up which can be costly. Endless fines and litigations resulted. My question is this: Is this problem well known in the rest of the world, such as in China, with her large manufacturing base? Good intention often has unintended bad consequences.
