What President Trump Just Made Famous

Almost every school kids in the US know or have heard of the Emancipation Proclamation made by President Lincoln. They may not know the exact date (1/1/1863) but they all know the intent of abolishing slavery. However few Americans, including President Trump, knew the significance of the date “Juneteenth (6/19/1865) which is the date when the state of Texas, the last stronghold of slavery, finally freed the slaves 2.5 years later. In my 70 years living in the US, this is the first time like many Americans that I learned the date 6/19 is celebrated by African Americans as their national holiday (President Trump had to be told by one of his secret service person who is an African American of the significance of “Juneteenth”). Now there is a movement to make 6/19 officially a national holiday as a result of the “Black Lives Matter” protest movements going on in the US and world wide for the past month.
