A Possible Problem for Chinese Students in US Universities
An executive order by President Trump that are supposed to going into effect 6/1/2020 forbidden the entry of new Chinese post graduate students to study in US universities may pose problems for both US universities and Chinese students https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-suspension-entry-nonimmigrants-certain-students-researchers-peoples-republic-china/
In particular, section 2 of the proclamation asserts that
“who either receives funding from or who currently is employed by, studies at, or conducts research at or on behalf of, or has been employed by, studied at, or conducted research at or on behalf of, an entity in the PRC that implements or supports the PRC’s “military-civil fusion strategy” is hereby suspended and limited subject to section 2 of this proclamation.. . . "
The order is so broad that it may affect about half of current Chinese students in the US or new ones seeking to study in US universities. I know that US Universities are already pushing back, but it looks like the start of a cold war which may cripple the research activities of many universities.”
I am indebted to Professor C. Cassandra of Boston University for this information.
