Hyper Immune Response

A new term I just learned last night about the current pandemic is the title of this blog. Apparently a not insignificant portion of the deaths of the current pandemic is NOT due to pneumonia or inability to breath but due to misbehavior by our own immune system which because of the virus starts a massive counter attack which indiscriminately include the organs of our own body resulting in multiple organ failure and death. In fact the serious illness I experienced on 1/25/2020 http://blog.sciencenet.cn/home.php?mod=space&uid=1565&do=blog&id=1226602 is one such hyper immune response which was triggered by unknown reason and which fortunately was confined only to skin and joints (hence not deadly). But the doctors were not so sure initially and feared much worse. Thus, I count myself as fortunate.
